One of the hottest toys of the 2006 Christmas season was the Elmo T.M.X., a 10th anniversary update to the classic Tickle Me Elmo. Both toys start with the same idea. First you "tickle" Elmo by squeezing him and then he laughs maniacally. The T.M.X. takes it a step further by bending over and rolling around on the floor, pounding his hands and feet only to finally right himself automatically and ask you to tickle him again.
Naturally we had to have the latest in Elmo tickle technology, so we headed over to the local Toys R Us and lucked into a single Elmo T.M.X. on the shelf. When we checked out, greenfly chickened out and went to the front of the store while the brave ck3k walked up to the grandmotherly clerk and went through with the purchase. The conversation went something like this:
Ck3k: "Here you go"
Clerk: "Is this for you?"
Ck3k: "Yeah"
Clerk: "What do you plan on doing with it?"
Ck3k: "I'm gonna skin him..."
Clerk: "Oh not my Elmo!"
A few tense seconds pass as the clerk stares disapprovingly at Ck3k. He thinks the jig is up, but finally she puts Elmo in the bag and hands it to him without saying another word.
We proceed with the unboxing...
Elmo came with metal restraints. Why?
We later found out...
Finally Elmo was free
